Muscle mass or bulk is the result of lifting very heavy weights and consuming huge amounts of calories to fuel those workouts. Without thousands of additional calories, it is impossible for your muscles to grow beyond a healthy proportionate size.
Muscles used for stabilization do not get loaded sufficiently for significant gains in muscle hypertrophy and strength. Machines provide stabilization of the body allowing for muscle isolation. Muscle synergism is required as the body constantly changes position relative to an opponent during a wrestling match. Only exercises done with free weights allow synergism.
Muscle fiber recruitment will always be less than if a free weight were used. Muscles will “remember” and get used to certain movements over a long period of time. That is why it is important to hit the muscle with angles to trick it into constant improvement.
